Nike success on Social network

Nike+ is a great case study in building brand loyalty via online social networking. Nike+ checks distance, speed, calories burnt during your runs. After your exercise you can send all your info to Nike+.com and check your performance. Data is collected via Ipod and Nike Sportband.

Over time the community went much further. In August, for instance, 800,000 runners logged on and signed up to run a 10K race sponsored by Nike simultaneously in 25 cities, from Chicago to São Paulo.

The initiative is proving to be generating extra business; Nike sold 1.3 million Nike+ iPod Sport Kits 500,000 Nike+ SportBands. Next stage is the basketball; the Oregon-based sport brand is testing a Facebook application that lets players organize real games.
